SOUTH OF COLOMBIA

Visit the south of Colombia with our traveler´s experts. The tour takes you to a variety of great destinations, from the Tatacoa Desert to the famous archaeological park of San Agustin, from a town that has been declared as a World Heritage Site by Unesco like Tierradentro to Cali, the capital city of Salsa music. You will also experience the life in coffee farms, flora and fauna of national parks,  thermal springs to reboot your energy and much more.

Day 1 Bogota

Our staff will pick you up at the airport to take you to the hotel to rest. You will have the day for yourself, but our traveler´s experts will be happy to assist you if you want to do some activities on the day.

Day 2 Bogota

We will spend some time discovering the charm and history of the center of the capital city of Colombia. It will start by using the public transport system to go to “La Candelaria”, a historic neighborhood. The starting point of the walking tour is “Plaza de Bolivar”, from which we will take some time walking around while admiring the colonial architecture, beautiful 17th and 18th century churches and 300 year old restored houses. The next stop will be Fernando Botero´s museum, the Colombia´s most famous painter and sculptor. Once we have admired his work art and have enjoyed a break for lunch, we will be ready to take the cable car to “Cerro de Monserrate”, which is the famous hill of the city with a white church on the top (only about 1.5 km from “La Candelaria”). The view is incredible and you can even see on clear days all the way to “Los Nevados”. We will back around 6 pm to the hotel.

DAY 3 BOGOTA-TATACOA DESERT

We will start early morning heading towards the Tatacoa desert on a private transport. The trip will take around 5 hours. The desert is a beautiful place full of eroded cliffs and gullies and a perfect destination to spend the night in a tent after enjoying the clear sky full of stars. If you prefer to stay in a hotel, we can arrange it to sleep in a nearby city called Neiva.

DAY 4 TATACOA DESERT-SAN AGUSTIN

We will drive to the town of San Agustin, widely famous for the amazing archaeological park you can visit there. We will stay the night in a traditional Colombian posada (hotel) that offers good home cooked meals so you can enjoy the traditional gastronomy of the region. You will have the day to discover the place by yourself, or to relax and spend some time with the locals.

DAY 5 SAN AUGUSTIN

Today we will dig ourselves in the Colombian history. We will visit the archeological park where you can admire tombs, stone statues and sarcophagus and more than 500 stone statues carved by the Indian sculptors. The park has three separate areas: San Agustín, Alto de los Ídolos and Alto de Las Piedras. The visit will be a life experience, after witnessing the art, power and skills of the pre-hispanic culture.

DAY 6 SAN AUGUSTIN

You will have a day free in the colombian pearl of ancient times, the place where pre-hispanic cultures lived for fifteen centuries. Take advantage of the day to explore the town. Our traveler´s experts will be happy to assist you if you want to do special activities on the day.

DAY 7 SAN AUGUSTIN-TIERRADENTRO

Early morning we will be driving to the town of Tierradentro, which is the second most important archaeological site in Colombia. It is remarkable for the astonishing underground tombs and the beauty of the surroundings hills.

DAY 8 TIERRADENTRO

Get ready to have a walking day tour with a local guide to visit the famous sites and the beautiful surroundings while learning about the ancient cultures that lived there and fascinating stories of the old times.

DAY 9 TIERRADENTRO-POPAYAN

The next destination will be Popayan, an enchanting town that has kept the amazing colonial architecture through the times, attracting tourists to admire the well preserved churches and houses. We will stay in a 18thcentury hotel. You can enjoy the rest of the day wandering around this lovely place.

DAY 10 POPAYAN

Free day to discover Popayan, named the "white city" because of its chalk-wall facades. There are interesting indigenous destinations accessible by car from the city. Our traveler´s experts will be happy to assist you if you want to visit some of them.

DAY 11 PASTO-LAGUNA DE LA COCHA

After breakfast, we will drive to Pasto, a small city just two hours away from the Ecuadorian border. It is cold throughout the year and offers nice churches worth visiting. After lunch, we will be heading to the Laguna de la Cocha, by far the most beautiful lake of Colombia. This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful nature. We will take a boat ride with a stop at Isla Corota, a beautiful place with a well preserved cloud forest.

DAY 12 PASTO-SANTUARIO DE LAS LAJAS

On the 12th day of the trip, we will visit a gothic cathedral, known for being the most beautiful in Colombia. It is called Santuario de las Lajas, and it was built between 1916 and 1944 between two cliffs that serves as a bridge, which makes it an interesting destination to visit specially for pilgrims and tourists. We will have a delicious lunch at the sanctuary.

DAY 13 PASTO-CALI

We will be on a road trip for quite a few hours to Cali through the Panamericana highway. You will be admiring the amazing landscapes of Colombia while we drive to the capital city of Salsa music. Prepare yourself for the night, because we will take you to one of the best salsa dance clubs in the world. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn some steps to dance salsa and to have a great night the way people from Cali do.

DAY 14 CALI-SALENTO

We will take a 3 hours road trip to one of the nicest towns in Colombia. This laidback town is located in the famous Colombian coffee region and it is a lovely small town surrounded by mountains. We will stay here for a couple of days to enjoy the beautiful nature and its surroundings.

DAY 15 SALENTO

We will visit a working coffee farm. The visit includes a walking tour through the coffee fields and on-site processing plant with a local guide. The visit finishes with a delicious cup of colombian coffee. Enjoy the rest of the day exploring the town on your own.

DAY 16 SALENTO

The day will start early morning heading to Valle de Cocora, one of the most beautiful valleys of Colombia. Expect to see the tallest palm in the world that can grow up to 60 meters. Get ready for a 3 hours hike through grasslands and cloud forests while seeing different species of birds. Back to the hotel to spend the last night in Salento.

DAY 17 SALENTO-MANIZALES

On the way to Manizales, we will stop at the “Termales de Santa Rosa”, thermal springs that are a perfect place to relax and reboot your energy. The 3 waterfalls (the largest is 170 meter high) will make the stop a great experience.

DAY 18 MANIZALES

We will leave early in the morning to visit Los Nevados , a beautiful national park. Prepare yourself for a day full of adventure that includes an excursion to the Nevado del Ruiz. Transport,breakfast and lunch are included.

DAY 19 MANIZALES-BOGOTA

We will be driving back to Bogotá with some stops and breaks on the way to rest. Some lucky travelers will be able to see snowy mountain peaks on the way. The tour will finish in Bogota after our last dinner together.

DAY 20 BOGOTA

Farewells are always difficult especially when you have to leave this amazing country. Thank you for choosing us to experience Colombia, we hope to see you again in the near future.
