DAY 1 BUCARAMANGA-VILLANUEVA
Our motorbike tour starts in Bucaramanga, which is known as “the city of parks” or “the beautiful city of Colombia”. Bucaramanga is the capital city of the Santander region and it is where Colombian Dude operates from. We will have a short introduction about the tour before taking the road to Villanueva, where we will be staying a couple of days in a traditional farm. You will have the chance to share your impressions of Colombia with people who own and run the farm. On the way to Villanueva, we will be driving through the Chicamocha canyon. The canyon is spectacular and we will stop a few times to take some amazing pictures of the trip. We will have lunch in San Gil, the famous town of extreme sports that you will be able to enjoy on the third day of this tour.
We will visit Barichara, labeled as the most beautiful village of Colombia due to the charming buildings that are built from mud and white washed by craftsmen. Get a feeling of the place by enjoying a walk around the town, the shops full of handicrafts, bags and souvenirs. We can visit towns that are nearby afterwards, like Guane, Socorro (that has an impressive cathedral) or el Paramo.
It will be an amazing ride to the historical city of Villa de Leyva. The landscape is unique and you will have the opportunity to admire the variety of plants, mountains and valleys on the way. After few hours, we will take a rest at the 14.000 square meter plaza of Villa de Leyva, a town that was founded in 1572 and was built by the Spanish conquerors. There are many festivals and celebrations through the year, which makes it a famous destination for colombians.
Early morning we will leave for Bogota. It’s a nice ride through the mountains, with nice weather and beautiful landscapes along the way. Expect some busy roads when arriving to Bogota (you may have heard of the congestion and traffic jams of the capital of Colombia). Our last stop will be the neighborhood of La Candelaria, in the center of the city. It is a great place to visit with beautiful colonial architecture, incredible 17th and 18th century churches and 300 year old restored houses
We will start early morning heading towards the Tatacoa desert on a ride that will take around 7 hours. The desert is a beautiful place full of eroded cliffs and gullies and a perfect destination to spend the night in a tent after enjoying the clear sky full of stars. If you prefer to stay in a hotel, we can arrange it to sleep in a nearby city called Neiva, but we truly advice you to spend the night at the desert.
We will be on the road heading towards the town of San Agustin, widely famous for the amazing archaeological park you can visit there. This region is one of the most beautiful historical places in South America. We will stay the night in a lovely Colombian owned farm, and at arrival, you have the chance to discover the place by yourself, or to relax and spend some time with the locals.
You have time to explore the town by yourself. You can visit the archeological park to admire tombs, stone statues and sarcophagus and more than 500 stone statues carved by the Indian sculptors. For more adventurous activities, there are some great hikes and horseback riding. You can also do some white-water rafting.
We will take a short cut on and off the beaten track. Our destination will be Laguna De La Cocha, by far the most beautiful lake of Colombia. This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful nature, surrounded by green hills and a landscape that looks from a postcard. We will be staying in a nice hotel near the lake.
After breakfast we will visit a gothic cathedral, known for being the most beautiful in Colombia. It is called Santuario de las Lajas, and it was built between 1916 and 1944 between two cliffs that serves as a bridge, which makes it an interesting destination to visit specially for pilgrims and tourists. We will have a delicious lunch at the sanctuary before going back to the hotel in Laguna De La Cocha at around 4pm.
The drive to Popayan has beautiful mountains and landscapes not easy to forget. After an exciting ride of around 5 hours, we will arrive to Popayan. It is a lovely city known for being the second most impressive colonial settlement in Colombia.
Free day to discover Popayan, named the "white city" because of its chalk-wall facades. There are interesting indigenous destinations accessible by car from the city. Our traveler´s experts will be happy to assist you if you want to visit some of them.
The road to Tierradentro will be rough but it has a fantastic scenery. Tierradentro is a great pre-colombian attraction, an enchanting town that has kept the amazing colonial architecture through the times, attracting tourists to admire the well preserved churches and houses. There are man-made burial caves with blue, green and white geometric patterns scattered all over. The surrounding landscape is spectacular and we will be visiting some indigenous villages. Don´t miss “guarapo”, a strong home-made alcoholic beverage .
Today we will do some exploring in the caves and visit some indigenous villages. You can also choose to relax in your hammock and take a well deserved break.
After breakfast we will be heading to the world capital city of salsa. The drive takes us through nice scenery and will have lunch in a restaurant along the way. We stay in downtown Cali and once we arrive you can take a rest. In the night we want you to take to one of the many salsa clubs in the city. You can watch how the Colombian people move around or try to move your feet on the dancefloor.
It will be an easy ride to this little and lovely town. Salento is surrounded by beautiful nature and it is a great place to relax and enjoy. You can have the opportunity to visit a working coffee farm or visit one of the most beautiful valleys of Colombia where you can see the tallest palm in the world that can grow up to 60 meters.
Spend the day exploring the town on your by yourself and at your own pace. This laidback town is located in the famous Colombian coffee region and it is a lovely small town surrounded by mountains.
Today we will leave early for Medellin. After a violent and difficult past, Medellin is now a beautiful prosperous city that leads many innovative projects in the country in areas like education, culture, architecture and many others. It was nominated as the most innovated city in the world in 2013, and lots of tourists visit the city every year, especially during the Christmas period, when the city is fully decorated with amazing lights to celebrate the holiday season. The city of everlasting spring (as it is called because of the average daily temperature of 22 degrees) offers lots of things to do and to see.
You will have the day to explore the city on your own. There are lots of plans to choose from, here we mention a few of them: Visit Santa Fe de Antioquia, a laidback colonial town near Medellín, take the tour of Pablo Escobar, visit the botanical garden or take the cable car uphill to visit the poor neighborhoods. We will be happy to assist you on your plans for the day.
After breakfast we will be heading to the holiday town of Guatape, a man-made reservoir. It will be an easy ride so have fun on the way. We will enjoy a 2 hour boat ride to do some sightseeing. Afterwards, we will climb el Peñol, a giant rock 200 meters high. Fell in love with the area by admiring the view from the top of the mountain.
The tour will finish with an exciting 9 hours ride to Bucaramanga. Enjoy the last day of your adventure in Colombia! We can stop at “Hacienda Napoles”, the farm owned by Pablo Escobar, if you want to visit this infamous place (entrance fee not included in the price of the tour).
