Colombia. Our advice is to contact your insurance company at home to arrange it before
WHAT TYPE OF LUGGAGE DO YOU RECOMMEND I SHOULD TAKE?
It all depends on the tour you are going to do with us. If you are going to do trekking or have
chosen a motorbike tour with us, it´s very important to have a strong backpack. Although we
have motorbike bags, some people prefer to bring their own backpack. For any other tour, a
small suitcase is all you need to bring the stuff with you.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT COLOMBIA?
You can visit Colombia anytime during the year. The peak seasons are December and
January, when festivals and popular celebrations take place around the country. June and July
can be busy due to school holidays. Rainy season is between December and March even
though Colombia has good weather throughout the year.
IS COLOMBIA SAFE?
From the founder’s experience and many other travelers, COLOMBIA IS A SAFE
COUNTRY. It has experienced a complete change the last 10 or 15 years, from a country
dominated by drug cartels to a renew economy and a touristic destination for foreigners. It is
now recognized as a safe place to travel and to live, with prosperous industries and a bright
future in the horizon. In spite of the guerrilla still controlling some rural areas of the country,
it is important to know that it is far away from any of the destinations offered by Colombian
dude and we will not take you to any area that can represent a risk to you or to our staff.
When visiting towns and cities, we advise you to follow our safety recommendations to avoid
losing your belongings (something that apply for any place in the world). Remember, the only
risk in Colombia is wanting to stay!
Most of the countries in Europe, as well as Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand and
the Americas don’t need a visa. You will get a visa stamp on arrival for 90 days, but you can
extent your stay by 90 days more. If you are a national from a different country than the ones
mentioned above, please contact the Colombian embassy in your country.
HOW IS THE WEATHER LIKE?
The weather in Colombia doesn´t change that much during the year because it lies on the
equator. The temperature, however, change by altitude. The weather in the Caribbean region
is around 25 to 35 degrees. In the Andes it varies from 15 to 30 degrees. Bogota has usually a
cold weather that can go from 0 to 20 degrees. In the south, expect temperatures from 20 to 30
degrees. In the Amazon it can go between 25 to 35 degrees due to its humidity.
You will be able to try a variety of delicious recipes in every region you decide to visit in
Colombia. The food is based on rice, beans, meat, chicken, fish and an incredible selection of
vegetables and fruits. Don´t miss the opportunity to try a fresh tropical fruit juice at any local
market or simply to choose a new piece of fruit to give it a go. It is an experience on itself!
For the ones that prefer to eat pizza, pasta, steaks or hamburgers, there are a lot of options
everywhere in the country.
Most hotels and hostels have free WIFI and there are internet cafes in every city or town.
You can find ATMs that accept international cards in all cities and towns.
You can pay with your card in most cities and large towns. Visa is largely used in Colombia,
but shops and restaurants also accept Mastercard and other cards.
Postal service is a bit tricky because it can be inefficient and expensive sometimes. Colombia
has postal services like DHL and FEDEX that have a fast and reliable service. 472 is the
cheapest option to send things from Colombia to the U.S or Europe, but it can take between 2
or 4 weeks to arrive.
HOW CAN I PAY IN COLOMBIA?
You can pay with your credit card or by cash. The currency is Colombian peso.
